My normal MO was to be on land, in the desert, among the rocks, generally five to twenty inches from the subject matter, 105mm macro lens, recording abstract "paintings," fairy tales, alluded to landscapes, all in the designs less than a square foot. A style I have followed into junkyards and abandoned places.
I had tried "landscape" photography. Who would not be awed and inspired by Adams, Weston, White, et al. I shot their landscapes with my sensitivities, and it never worked. This time I shot my landscapes, and it worked.
The fusion of perspective, micro and macro was powerful flying across the northeastern and northwestern Nevada deserts. I realized I had been a landscape photographer for a long time. I could see all the close-ups of old from 2000 feet above, and the landscapes below as if a foot away. The fusion was joyful and has opened new ways of approaching and interpreting images.
